Independents Are Skeptical of More Government Regulation

Independents are somewhat skeptical about the federal government playing an aggressive role in environmental regulation. On a 0 to 10 issue scale contrasting liberal and conservative statements, voters indentified where they position themselves, President Obama, congressional Democrats and congressional Republicans. With a mean of 5.5, Independents indentify themselves closer to the conservative belief that environmental regulations “are better left to the private sector and that federal spending and regulation will only hurt businesses and kill jobs” compared to the liberal position that “the federal government should be more aggressive in promoting green technology and a clean environment.”
